3-Day Lake District Adventure Itinerary

  1. Day 1

Lake District National Park & Keswick

Leaving Manchester, we head north into the Lake District National Park and arrive in Ambleside — one of the region's most popular towns, surrounded by stunning scenery. You'll have time here to explore and grab a bite to eat.

We then continue to Kirkstone Pass for a quick photo stop. It's the highest pass open to traffic in the Lakes, with incredible views stretching out across the fells in every direction.

We then follow the shores of Ullswater, often called England's most beautiful lake. Here, you can enjoy a forest walk and see the impressive Aira Force waterfall. Our final scenic stop is Friar's Crag, a stunning viewpoint over Derwentwater. We end the day with a short ride to Keswick, where you're dropped at your accommodation and free to explore the lively market town.

  2. Day 2

Castlerigg Stone Circle & Hawkshead Village

Start your day in awe at the ancient Castlerigg stones — over 5,000 years old and once a lively hub of ancient pagan rituals. Then, wind through country lanes to Grasmere, described by Wordsworth as 'the loveliest spot that man hath found'. Enjoy free time to visit Wordsworth's Dove Cottage, sample the village's famous gingerbread, or relax in the peaceful Daffodil Garden by the River Rothay.

Next, enjoy free time for lunch in Bowness-on-Windermere, a charming lakeside town, and take your included 45-minute islands cruise to soak up the views across the lake.

In the afternoon, visit more scenic gems, including a stop at Langdale Boulders — home to prehistoric rock art. After a relaxing stop in the cosy village of Hawkshead, we return to Keswick by early evening.

  3. Day 3

    Buttermere, Kendal and Ullswater

It's the final day, but the adventure's not over. You'll wind past Crummock Water and Buttermere, heading for the Honister Mountain Pass. Pause in the hills to see the old slate workings, where a few locals still earn a living.

Next, prepare to be amazed. The massive Bowder Stone — 2,000 tonnes of rock — fell 200 metres from Bowder Crag over 10,000 years ago. It stands 9 metres tall and 15 metres wide. Picture the thunderous crash it must have made when it landed.

Then it's back to Keswick for a break and free time for lunch (not included), before making your way to the serene shores of Ullswater for a walk. The day ends in Kendal, a lovely market town of cobbled streets and rich history. After exploring, it's time to return to Manchester.

What's Included

Accommodation
  • 2 nights en-suite accommodation with breakfast
  • What should I expect from a B&B?
B&Bs are traditionally small family owned and run properties offering a handful of guest rooms. They are usually residential properties, so they tend to be located on the outskirts of towns and you should be prepared for a 20–30 minute walk to local facilities like pubs and restaurants.
It's unusual for a B&B to offer any additional services like concierge, porterage, evening meals or room-service. Wi-fi is usually, but not always available and it's worth bearing in mind that access can be unreliable in more remote locations.
If you have difficulty with stairs, please request a ground-floor room (subject to availability, upon request only) as lifts will not be available in this type of property.
