Day 1
The Cotswolds Villages and Europe's Book Capital
We depart London and head west to the Cotswolds, where rolling hills, charming villages, and stone cottages offer a peaceful break from the everyday. Our first stop is Burford, the 'Gateway to the Cotswolds.' With its cobbled streets and honey-colored stone buildings, it feels like stepping back in time.
Next, we journey into Wales, a land of over 600 castles and stunning landscapes. Our first destination is Hay-on-Wye, the "Booktown," famous for its secondhand bookshops. It's a haven for book lovers—take your time to browse and maybe find a new literary treasure to take home. We then continue to the Elan Valley, where still waters, winding rivers, and wooded hills create a tranquil setting. Relax and let the beauty of Wales surround you.
As the afternoon wanes, we ascend into the rugged Cambrian Mountains, with vast moorlands and towering peaks. Descending toward the coast, we reach Aberystwyth, a lively seaside town where we'll stay for the next two nights. The evening is yours to explore — walk along the Victorian pier, watch the sun dip into the sea, or settle into a cosy local spot to enjoy a taste of Welsh cuisine.
-
Day 2
Snowdonia & Harlech Castle
We head north to Eryri (Snowdonia) National Park, a region of stunning landscapes and rich legends. With its towering peaks, serene lakes, and lush valleys, this area has captivated visitors for centuries. At the heart of the park is Beddgelert, a charming village surrounded by mountains and forests. Its cobbled streets and stone cottages are picture-perfect, but it's the tale of the legendary dog, Gelert, that truly will pull your heart strings.
Our next stop is Harlech Castle, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. With dramatic sea views and a fascinating history, it's an unmissable sight. Enjoy some free time for lunch (not included) at a nearby café before we return to Aberystwyth in the afternoon. You'll have free time to take a ride on the Victorian-era funicular for panoramic views of the coast, town, and hills.
The evening is yours in Aberystwyth. Whether you choose to relax or explore more of this delightful town, the choice is yours.

Day 3
New Quay
We depart Aberystwyth and travel along the stunning Cardigan Bay coastline, passing through the picturesque town of Aberaeron before arriving at New Quay. New Quay, with its sandy harbour, whitewashed cottages, and ties to Dylan Thomas, is one of the most beautiful towns in Britain. Take a short break here, enjoy a refreshment, and keep an eye out—you might spot dolphins or even whales.
Then, we journey inland, crossing rolling hills and lush farmland, to visit the Dinefwr Estate (Newton House) and its ruined castle. At the Dinefwr Estate, enjoy a lunch stop (not included) while you explore two key sites. First, discover Dinefwr Castle, a medieval fortress once home to Welsh kings, and then take a short walk to Newton House, a grand Georgian mansion.
Afterward, we visit Laugharne, nestled by the River Tâf estuary, where your driver-guide will show you Dylan Thomas's Boathouse, his home for his final years and the place where he wrote Under Milk Wood. Alternatively, relax with a coffee near the castle. Finally, we reach Tenby, a lovely harbour town on the edge of Pembrokeshire Coast National Park. You'll have free time to explore its sandy beaches, admire the Victorian architecture, or enjoy a drink at a local pub.
-
Day 4
Pembrokeshire Coast National Park
We start the day by traveling through the beautiful Pembrokeshire Coast National Park, home to some of Britain's most stunning coastal scenery. This area is also the birthplace of Wales' patron saint and the Twdyr (anglicised to Tudor) royal dynasty. After a brief stop for refreshments in Pembroke, we continue to St Davids.
In St Davids, you'll have time to explore the smallest city in Britain. Steeped in history, it's named after St David and is home to the impressive St Davids Cathedral, a remarkable example of medieval architecture.
In the afternoon, you can choose your adventure. If you're a castle enthusiast, you can head back to Pembroke to visit the medieval castle, birthplace of Henry VII. Alternatively, if you prefer the seaside, spend more time in Tenby. Relax on the beach or take a boat trip to the peaceful Caldey Island, home to Cistercian monks. You'll also have time in the late afternoon to visit the castle ruins in Tenby, perched on a hill with stunning sea views. Enjoy a free evening in Tenby, perfect for a relaxing sunset stroll along the beach.
-
Day 5
St Fagans & Castle Combe
On the final day of our Welsh adventure, we leave behind Wales' beauty and head south to St Fagans National Museum of History. Here, you'll step back in time, discovering historic buildings, traditional crafts, and the rich stories that have shaped Wales.
We then say our goodbyes to Wales and cross the Severn Estuary into England, arriving in the peaceful Cotswolds. Famous for its thatched cottages and serene gardens, we stop in Castle Combe, often called one of the prettiest villages in England. Wander its charming streets, snap a photo at the iconic bridge, and enjoy the stunning countryside that makes this village so picturesque.
As the day comes to a close, we return to London, reflecting on the unforgettable landscapes, rich history, and tranquil moments of this memorable journey through England and Wales.

What should I expect from a B&B?

It's unusual for a B&B to offer any additional services like concierge, porterage, evening meals or room-service. Wi-fi is usually, but not always available and it's worth bearing in mind that access can be unreliable in more remote locations.
