Highlights

Some sights leave you speechless. No sentence can sum them up; no photos can capture their beauty. You just have to be there. And for four days, that's exactly what this tour delivers.

Castles that seem unreal, mountains that etch themselves into memory, and villages so charming you'll dream of packing your bags and moving in. Discover those rare moments — and the magic of the Isle of Skye and the West Highlands.

  • Journey from Edinburgh past the giant Kelpies sculptures and Stirling Castle, through Trossachs National Park, across the remote Rannoch Moor to the dramatic valley of Glencoe
  • Stand at Glenfinnan to watch the Jacobite Steam Train cross the iconic viaduct made famous by Harry Potter, beside the moving monument to the Jacobite cause on the shores of Loch Shiel
  • Cross to the Isle of Skye and explore its most iconic scenery — from the Trotternish Ridge with the Old Man of Storr and the Quiraing to the legendary Dunvegan Castle
  • Explore Eilean Donan Castle up close — one of Scotland's most filmed fortresses — perched on its own tiny island amid the peaks of Kintail
  • Walk the shores of Loch Ness at Fort Augustus, pass through the Cairngorms National Park, and finish with a view of the UNESCO-listed Forth Rail Bridge on the return to Edinburgh

4-Day Isle of Skye & West Highlands Tour Itinerary

  1. Day 1

    Glencoe and the Rannoch Moor

We depart Edinburgh heading northwest to visit the Kelpies, two massive horse-head sculptures that symbolize Scotland's industrial heritage. Continuing through the Lowlands, we reach Stirling, where Stirling Castle sits atop a rocky hill, offering a glimpse into Scotland's rich history. After a photo stop, we enter the Highlands, where flat farmland gives way to lochs, forests, and mountains as we arrive in Trossachs National Park. A short pause by a peaceful loch allows you to enjoy the fresh Highland air.

Next, we stop in Killin for free time to have lunch (not included). This village is famous for the roaring Falls of Dochart and its connection to folk hero Rob Roy. The journey continues through spectacular Highland landscapes — rivers, woods, and lochs — before crossing the remote Rannoch Moor. We then arrive in Glencoe, known for its dramatic beauty and tragic history, with time for photos or a brief walk.

In the early evening, we drive along Loch Linnhe to Fort William, where you can explore the town, admire views of Ben Nevis, or learn about its Jacobite heritage.

  2. Day 2

    The 'Harry Potter' Rail Bridge

Leaving Fort William, we take a scenic drive to Glenfinnan, a site rich in history and famous for its iconic viaduct. Set between towering mountains and the sparkling waters of Loch Shiel, Glenfinnan combines stunning natural scenery with deep historical significance. Here, you'll see the well-known viaduct featured in the Harry Potter films alongside a poignant monument honouring the Jacobites who fought for their cause. You'll have time to take in the views, visit the monument, and watch the Jacobite Steam Train cross the viaduct.

Afterwards, we continue to Mallaig, where you'll have some free time for lunch (not included) before boarding the ferry to Skye. The afternoon is devoted to exploring the beautiful Sleat Peninsula, often called the "Garden of Skye" because of its lush greenery. Your driver-guide will adjust the route depending on the weather, possibly visiting Glenbrittle's waterfalls or the dramatic Cuillin Mountains at Elgol, where stunning views await.

As the day concludes, we travel to your overnight stay in the Lochalsh or Skye area. Please note: during the winter months (October to the end of April) the tour takes a scenic route through Kyle of Lochalsh and crosses over the Skye Bridge instead of the Mallaig ferry.

  3. Day 3

    Skye's Most Iconic Scenery

Skye reveals breathtaking views at every corner, and today your driver-guide will customise the route to make the best use of time and weather in this magnificent setting. Exploring Skye feels like entering a dream, with countless wonders to uncover. You may journey north toward the Trotternish Ridge and beyond, where natural marvels such as the Old Man of Storr, Kilt Rock, and the dramatic Quiraing mountain pass await. This region enchants with its otherworldly rock formations, soaring cliffs, vast open spaces, and wild, untouched atmosphere.

After a morning of discovery, we'll pause in one of the island's towns for free time to enjoy lunch (not included) and refresh before the afternoon. Later, your driver-guide may share tales of clan history and legends as you visit Dunvegan Castle, the 13th-century ancestral seat of Clan MacLeod.

By early evening, you'll return to your lodging in the Lochalsh or Skye area, where you can unwind or explore independently before the final day of your tour.

  4. Day 4

Eilean Donan Castle & Fort Augustus

We begin the day visiting Eilean Donan Castle, perched on a small island. This renowned fortress, famous for its appearances in films, is steeped in history. Take some time to enjoy refreshments at a nearby café, stroll along the loch to admire the castle's exterior, or explore inside to view artifacts from the MacKenzie and MacRae clans.

From there, we travel past sparkling lochs and the towering Five Sisters of Kintail before reaching the picturesque village of Fort Augustus, nestled on the shores of Loch Ness. After a lunch break (not included), you're free to walk along the Caledonian Canal to watch boats navigate its locks, sample traditional Scottish fare, or take a leisurely stroll down to the loch's edge in search of the legendary monster.

Travelling south, we pass the expansive mountains of Cairngorms National Park with stops for photos, before our final refreshment break in the charming cathedral town of Dunkeld on the banks of the River Tay. In the early evening we continue south through Fife's rolling hills and farmland. Your final highlight is a stunning view of the iconic, UNESCO-listed Forth Rail Bridge on the return to Edinburgh.

What's Included

Accommodation
  • 3 nights en-suite accommodation with breakfast (guesthouse/B&B)
  • What should I expect from a B&B?
B&Bs are traditionally small family owned and run properties offering a handful of guest rooms. They are usually residential properties, so they tend to be located on the outskirts of towns and you should be prepared for a 20–30 minute walk to local facilities like pubs and restaurants.
It's unusual for a B&B to offer any additional services like concierge, porterage, evening meals or room-service. Wi-fi is usually, but not always available and it's worth bearing in mind that access can be unreliable in more remote locations.
If you have difficulty with stairs, please request a ground-floor room (subject to availability, upon request only) as lifts will not be available in this type of property.
